During the border demarcation process with Armenia, 8 villages must be “returned” to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijanis have lived in these villages, and these villages must be “returned.” Such a statement was made by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during his year-end press conference.
According to him, negotiations on demarcation are an important direction of discussions with Armenia.
“The demarcation process, however complex it may be, must be realised through negotiations, alongside the legal examination of all documents.
We must move forward step by step. Within this framework is the issue of the 8 villages, in which Azerbaijanis have lived for ‘centuries.’ For that reason, those villages must be ‘returned’ to Azerbaijan,” Bayramov said during the press conference.
He also once again accused Armenia of “provocations” on the border, saying that they “slow down the demarcation process.”
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister touched upon Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, peace negotiations and the progress of the peace treaty.
“It is no secret that the Russian side has proposed leaving the issue related to the status of Karabakh for the coming years.
We must rely on our own agenda, our own proposals. We have stated from the first day that this proposal is unacceptable. We are negotiating on fundamental principles. Azerbaijan takes steps only within the framework of its national interests,” Bayramov declared.
