The EAEU countries are discussing the question of the possible participation of Azerbaijan’s delegation in the meeting of the union’s governing body, but this is still being hindered by the existing disagreements between Baku and Yerevan, which are unlikely to be resolved before the meeting in Kazan. This was reported by RBK (Russian: РБК), citing its Armenian, Russian and EAEU sources.
“Indeed, there was that idea (of inviting Baku). It is not that we are opposed in principle; we say that there are unresolved issues, among them the question of prisoners of war,” a diplomatic source from the Armenian side told RBK.
Yerevan has compiled a list of prisoners of war containing around 200 names, and it has already been handed over to the Red Cross. This was told to RBK by another interlocutor from the Armenian side, who is familiar with the matter.
In response to RBK’s inquiry, the foreign ministries of Russia and Armenia said that the participation of countries without status in the union in the council meeting is still being discussed, and that no agreed position of the EAEU member states exists yet.
