All elections bring glory and honor to our country, and these elections will be no exception. Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan said this on 8 September during a conversation with journalists, speaking about the local self-government elections underway in Artsakh.
“I am more than convinced that we, as a country that has taken the path of democracy, will record our next success. Any election is an opportunity to ensure the progress of our country, and I have naturally voted for the progress of our country,” he noted.
According to the President of the Republic of Artsakh, he has followed the candidates’ campaigns, and in his impression, the candidates have a basic understanding of the city’s problems.
“Our city has not only been transformed, but has also gained new energy over these years. I believe the new mayor and the new municipal council must be capable of ensuring this vigorous pace of development and creating additional conditions for the city’s development and prosperity,” he said.
Bako Sahakyan, however, stressed that one should not be satisfied with the work done in the previous period, emphasizing that “the city is a living organism that always demands more be done than has been done.”
“I love Stepanakert, and over these years I have tried, together with those responsible, to impart to the city that potential which, as a capital, nourishes not only the people of Stepanakert but the entire country.”
It should be noted that Bako Sahakyan appeared at the polling station with his wife.
Let us recall that local self-government elections are being held in 228 communities of Artsakh. A total of 415 candidates have been nominated for the position of community head and 2,573 for member of the council of elders.
Five candidates have been nominated for the position of mayor of Stepanakert: Davit Sargsyan, Arayik Avanesyan, Armen Hagopyan, Areg Avagyan, and Grigori Sahakyan.
More than 400 observers have been accredited to carry out the observation mission.
