On 28 September, units of Azerbaijan’s armed forces illegally present in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, using mortars and large-calibre firearms, once again grossly violated the ceasefire regime and opened fire in the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as a result of which the Armenian side suffered three casualties.
This is stated in a message issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
“The latest provocation by Azerbaijan, which is a continuation of the large-scale aggression (attack) against Armenia’s territorial integrity that began on 13 September, is an open contempt for the calls voiced by the international community and the member states of the UN Security Council to preserve the ceasefire regime that had been achieved. This reaffirms the Armenian side’s alarms that Azerbaijan is preparing to continue its policy of the use of force and its expansionist policy.
Moreover, Azerbaijan’s similar provocation aims to derail the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries, around the organisation of which discussions are underway,” the MFA stated.
Armenia’s foreign policy department urges the international community to exert pressure on Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership through the implementation of active steps and the activation of appropriate mechanisms, in order to strictly maintain the ceasefire regime, to leave the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and to prevent new attacks, and stressed that the Republic of Armenia shall continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means stipulated by the UN Charter:
