The US Congress has ratified the Artsakh demining program. This was written on his Facebook page by Americanist Suren Sargsyan.
Sargsyan specifically wrote:
“Another victory in the ‘Resolution War’: The Artsakh demining program was approved.
Armenian organizations have succeeded in having the Artsakh demining program approved in the House of Representatives of Congress. Azerbaijan worked unprecedentedly vigorously against this program, on all fronts. After approval in the Senate, it will go to the President for signature. At this point, the likelihood of preserving the program is high.
This is an exceptional victory for us, because the US National Security Council was working seriously with the Azerbaijanis to halt the program.
There is still work to be done in the Senate, which I am confident the two Armenian organizations will accomplish successfully.”
The bill provides for $1.4 million in assistance to Artsakh to continue HALO Trust’s life-saving demining operations. The amendment regarding aid to Artsakh was adopted as part of a larger package of amendments.
No amendment to the 2021 foreign assistance bill received as much support as the question of providing aid to Artsakh.
HALO Trust has been engaged in humanitarian demining in Artsakh since 2001.
