Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia Armen Grigoryan does not see the need to close the border with Georgia at this time, during a conversation with Armenpress, responding to the question of whether the issue of closing the border with Georgia could be discussed within the framework of efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Armen Grigoryan answered: “If there is a need for it, it will be discussed; at this moment there is no need for it yet.”
To the question of whether it would not be a serious national security problem if the borders with both Iran and Georgia were closed, the Secretary of the Security Council answered.
“We have not yet reached that situation. From a security perspective we will discuss it; if there is a need, we will close them, if not, we will not close them.”
On 25 February, the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to temporarily restrict communication with the Islamic Republic of Iran came into force.
