The President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has issued a message in which he expresses hope that public discussions and debates on various issues will lead to a result consistent with public and nationwide interests.
“Dear compatriots, in these summer days, when in many countries of the world state and political life has largely entered a calm phase, in our country public debates and searches are still lively,” the President noted in his message, continuing: “Of course, the goal of all of us continues to remain the same: to strengthen democracy in the country, ensure economic development and the country’s security, have a prosperous society, fully realize the constitutional principles of establishing a legal, social state, guarantee human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
“We are attentively following the numerous statements, opinions, viewpoints, calls for actions, and calls regarding those calls, and so on. Faithful to the role reserved by the Constitution for the institution of the President of the Republic of Armenia, I am refraining as much as possible from taking part in the political debate regarding current developments, no matter how great the temptation to speak is as a citizen,” Armen Sarkissian emphasized. At the same time, he is hopeful that current and future developments will contribute not only to the effectiveness of judicial-legal reforms, but also to the improvement of all spheres of state and public administration, and to the deepening of mutual understanding and cooperation between the authorities and society.
“I also hope that public discussions and debates on various issues will lead to a result consistent with public, nationwide interests. We only need to continue to believe in our strengths and our mind. We must realize that not only the goal is important, but also the path to reaching it. Let us make disagreements and problems the subject of discussion, rather than individuals,” the message stated.
“To move forward, a brief pause is often useful, to weigh once again what needs to be done. Let us realize that today we need unity, stability, and a forward-looking view, a vision, as well as concrete programs,” the President emphasized, stating that recently he has met and will continue to meet with representatives and individuals of political and public circles, “all those who are ready for dialogue, who are interested and act for the welfare of our country and people.”
“God protect us,” Armen Sarkissian concluded his message.
