Seventy-five Armenian pilgrims, escorted by Russian peacekeepers, visited the Amaras monastery complex yesterday, which is located near the Armenian-Azerbaijani demarcation line, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
The latest group of pilgrims arrived at the Amaras monastery complex from Stepanakert and the towns and villages adjacent to the monastery complex.
“Even without the escort of Russian peacekeepers, citizens can visit here, but it is dangerous. And now it is safe, because the guarantee of our safety is the Russian flag,” said the monastery’s abbot, Geghard Hovhannisyan.
The peacekeepers also accompanied the pilgrims on the return journey.
