Azerbaijan considers baseless Yerevan’s efforts to include in the draft peace agreement between the two countries a provision on creating an international mechanism for discussing the rights and security of the Armenians of Karabakh.
Commenting on the statement by the Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, on the importance of developing an international mechanism within the framework of which Stepanakert and Baku would discuss the rights and security issues of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, the press spokesperson of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ayhan Hajizadeh, said that “such efforts will yield no results.”
He noted that “Armenia has not to this day renounced its territorial claims against Azerbaijan.”
“Once again we want to remind that Karabakh is an inalienable part of Azerbaijan, and the rights and security of the Armenian population living in this region will be ensured in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Armenia’s interference in the process of reintegration of the Armenian population, which is Azerbaijan’s internal matter, is unacceptable,” Hajizadeh said.
