Azerbaijan’s military department on November 9 condemned the Armenian Defense Minister’s working visit to Artsakh.

Arshak Karapetyan, who traveled to Artsakh on November 6, participated in a working consultation with the leadership of the Artsakh Defense Army in Stepanakert, visited combat positions, met with servicemen on combat duty, and familiarized himself with the fortification works at the positions.

In a statement issued on this occasion, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry characterized the minister’s visit as a provocation on the eve of the anniversary of the trilateral agreement. “The military-political leadership of Armenia, grossly violating the provisions of the trilateral agreement, aims to destabilize the situation in the region and cast a shadow on the activities of the Russian peacekeepers,” the statement said.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry accuses Armenia’s military leadership of resorting to “cheap adventurism” instead of drawing lessons from the defeat in the 44-day war, adapting to the new geopolitical situation in the region, and strengthening peace and security. Azerbaijan’s military department also warned Armenia’s military-political leadership that “in the event of a repetition of such illegal visits to the territory of Azerbaijan, necessary measures will be taken to prevent aggressive separatism and terrorist activities, in accordance with Azerbaijan’s legislation.”
