United States President Joe Biden congratulated Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the victory in the parliamentary elections and the formation of the new government.
In his congratulatory message addressed to Pashinyan, Biden emphasised that the conduct of free and transparent elections underscores the desire of the Armenian people to have a more democratic, just and prosperous society, free of corruption. “Over the past three years, Armenia has made progress in these areas. The United States is pleased to lend its support to your efforts to launch the new patrol police and to form independent institutions to fight corrupt networks. We will continue to be a reliable partner in your work to achieve these goals,” Biden noted.
He stated that he understands the difficult security challenges that emerged in 2020 as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “The United States is committed to supporting the parties in negotiating a comprehensive, peaceful settlement under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. We urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to engage in substantive negotiations as soon as possible.
The United States was glad to support the efforts to release Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan, and we will continue to call for the safe return of all prisoners. We hope that the progress we have made on this issue with the support of Georgia will serve as an important foundation for further regional cooperation, in addition to the discussions initiated by the Minsk Group co-chairs,” Biden said in his message addressed to Pashinyan.
