A brawl broke out during the speech of Bright Armenia faction leader Edmon Marukyan in the National Assembly. The clash escalated between deputies Sasun Mikayelyan and Edmon Marukyan, with other deputies also getting involved in an attempt to end the fight.
Because of the incident, the National Assembly session was interrupted for about 3 hours.
“About 3 hours have passed since the incident, and during this time we have not seen a response befitting a democratic political system,” declared Bright Armenia faction deputy Edmon Marukyan.
“I believe that the foundations of democracy have been violated, the values proclaimed by the revolution, and I believe that something unprecedented in the history of Armenia has taken place. ..What happened is political and must have a political assessment. ..And we expect from the ruling faction and from the political forces of the Republic of Armenia those assessments that are befitting of a democratic system.
Next, a mere political assessment cannot change anything. The incident must have political consequences. What happened is largely our problem too, but more so it is the problem of the leader of the revolution. We are now leaving the session hall, and in the future, based on the political assessments and consequences, we will draw conclusions, define our course of action, and understand how we are to work within this parliament in the future,” said Marukyan.
After that, all deputies of the Bright Armenia faction left the session hall.
