Germany’s newly appointed Deputy Ambassador, currently Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Erik Tintrup, is shaken by the picture of destruction he saw in Jermuk. We learn this from the Facebook page of the German Embassy in Armenia.
It should be noted that yesterday around 50 diplomats, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, visited Jermuk. There, the Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of Armenia, Eduard Asryan, presented to them the consequences of the Azerbaijani attack and the atrocities committed by them. He said that the enemy had penetrated the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia along a front 8.5 kilometres wide, to a depth of 7.5 kilometres. Asryan not only told the diplomats but also showed them video footage depicting Azerbaijanis torturing servicemen, including women.
“Jermuk is a picturesque, peaceful resort nestled in nature. On Tuesday there were even German tourists here. That none of the residents was killed is almost a miracle, because the artillery fire struck restaurants and the cable car line, located kilometres from the border, just a few hundred metres from residential buildings and hotels full of tourists,” Erik Tintrup said, expressing his impressions from the visit.
According to him, the explosions were so close that a German female tourist was able to photograph them from her hotel room.
“I am deeply concerned. We sympathise with the Armenian people,” the Deputy Ambassador wrote.
