How can early parliamentary elections be organised when our sisters and brothers are in Azerbaijani prisons. This was stated on 18 January in the National Assembly by the leader of the Bright Armenia party, Edmond Marukyan.
“I want to respond to Mrs. Makunts’ statement, that the authorities have published a road map and proposed early parliamentary elections. I could not imagine and I cannot imagine how parliamentary elections can be organised in a situation where our brothers and sisters are in Azerbaijani prisons, how can one go to their homes and hand out pre-election booklets. I cannot imagine early parliamentary elections in a situation where the process of recognition of our heroic martyrs is underway and their relatives are awaiting the results. How are you going to go to their courtyards and speak through loudspeakers,” said Edmond Marukyan.
According to Edmond Marukyan, the Bright Armenia party is, nevertheless, ready for early parliamentary elections, but they must be organised according to the established procedure.
“I cannot imagine how it is possible to organise early parliamentary elections now, but since the authorities are threatening with elections, I want to say that we are ready now. And I think no one has forgotten the procedure. The procedure is as follows: to resign, after which the prime minister is not elected twice and the parliament dissolves itself. There is no other process, dear colleagues, therefore, if you want to organise early elections, organise them, who is holding your hand. We have already started organising training courses for members of precinct electoral commissions, we are reviewing, changing, appointing new ones, preparing at a great pace. To the opposition, whom you threaten, if you want to hold early parliamentary elections, there is no such thing. Dissolve the parliament and let us go to early elections. We are waiting for that process,” noted Marukyan.
