“Zinuzh Media” has prepared a report about volunteer Jirair Kevorkian, who from the second day of the war transported the wounded to hospital in a UAZ.
Jirair’s route is the same again—to the hospital—he who evacuated numerous wounded in a UAZ from the battlefield under enemy fire at the war’s hottest points; this time, however, to visit the boys.
“What I did, I did for my nation, because I am Armenian, for nothing else,” said volunteer Jirair Kevorkian.
The climax of Jirair’s story—who volunteered and left for Artsakh with his friends on the second day of the war—was on 6 November, when during fierce fighting in the approaches to Shushi he found an abandoned UAZ in the field and from that moment decided to take on the mission of evacuating the wounded from the front line and delivering them to hospitals.
Jirair had managed to bring 42 wounded out of the battlefields.
The traces and consequences of enemy fire are still fresh not only on the vehicle, but also in Jirair’s mind.
He recalls one by one the cases of miraculous survival while transporting the wounded: “Our friend shouts, ‘Jiro, get out of there.’ I back up and a shell (bomb) falls in front of me.”
Even after the end of the war, Jirair spends more than half the week in Artsakh. On his own initiative, he now gathers construction materials with his friends and takes them there, helping the people of Artsakh repair their homes.
