The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport is not preparing to resign. Arayik Harutyunyan announced this at a press conference. The minister is ready to resign in the event that he feels they are heading in the wrong direction. “I ask our colleagues not to frighten me with thunderous statements and such resignations, because I am not afraid of that. I have been and am one of the leaders of the revolutionary team, I have taken on a mission to reform the sector, and I am currently carrying out that mission,” the minister said.
The department’s initiatives have recently become the occasion for heated public discussions, and his opponents regularly hold protests demanding the resignation of Minister Harutyunyan. The matter has also reached parliament. The initiative belongs to “Bright Armenia.” The faction is dissatisfied with Harutyunyan’s work. The oppositionists have even brought a poster into the session hall reading “Take a step, leave with spirit.”
The “Bright” party has proposed that parliament adopt a decision for the prime minister to discuss the question of Arayik Harutyunyan’s continued tenure. Earlier, the faction had raised the question of the dismissal of two ministers from the current government, but the National Assembly had not adopted such a decision.
Arayik Harutyunyan also addressed the question of Arsen Julfalakyan, a deputy from the “My Step” faction, resigning his mandate, saying that he had had no discussion with Julfalakyan over the past months, and that he had had the opportunity to raise those issues: “It is possible that we would have accepted part of that criticism, that clear criticism, and made corrections, and explained part of it, that in his perceptions and his so-called positions, the facts that underlie it do not correspond to reality.”
Let us recall that Arsen Julfalakyan’s decision to resign his mandate was conditioned by principled disagreements with the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Arayik Harutyunyan.
