Iran is not opposed to the deployment of the European Union civilian mission on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, in response to a journalist’s question during a workshop titled “Armenia-Iran Relations within the Framework of Common Interests.”
“Other countries can contribute their share to ensuring security and peace in the region,” the ambassador noted.
As for the resolution of issues with the participation of the region’s countries, it can ensure security and peace that will be based on dialogue and discussions.
“Armenia and Iran are neighbours, they are and will remain neighbours. Of course, certain machinations are observed, there is talk of so-called corridors and certain actions, but Iran and Armenia will not allow such a corridor to be created,” the ambassador stated.
He added that the position of both the Iranian and Armenian sides is very clear.
“We must also be proactive. We must see what new steps we can take. We must wait for a new idea to emerge, for example regarding the opening of some corridor, and then we will decide what position we should adopt. That is, we must not allow such a thing,” he said.
In this regard, the ambassador described the establishment of Iran’s consulate general in Kapan as an exemplary action, and soon also the opening of the Armenian consulate in Tabriz.
