The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, and the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group have issued a joint statement. According to Armenpress, this was stated in a communiqué released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
On 21 April, an online meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov, through the mediation and with the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stéphane Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (United States), as well as the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Andrzej Kasprzyk.
The participants discussed the situation created in the region as a result of the spread of the coronavirus, emphasising that all the peoples of the region face this new challenge, regardless of political borders. Reference was made to the latest developments in the region.
Within the framework of the global fight against the coronavirus, the need to take steps towards the unconditional maintenance and strengthening of the ceasefire regime was particularly emphasised. In this regard, the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group deemed important their statement and the call of the UN Secretary-General regarding a global ceasefire.
