RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that the victorious July battles in the Tavush direction proved that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has no military solution, and it is time for Azerbaijan to accept this.
Pashinyan said this at the August 21 meeting of the Security Council.
«During the previous meeting we adopted the new National Security Strategy, and it is noteworthy that shortly after that decision, the relevance and viability of that document was recorded. After our previous meeting, the well-known Tavush events took place — the victorious battles of Tavush — and the following must be recorded: throughout the entire previous period, Azerbaijan had adopted a position whereby not giving a military solution to the Karabakh issue, not initiating it itself, was presented as a concession to both Armenia and the international community. And throughout this entire period we urged the Azerbaijani leadership that it should not speak with Armenia from positions of strength, in the language of force, and that this is unpromising rhetoric. And, in essence, the victorious July battles proved this and proved that the Karabakh issue has no military solution. I believe it is time for the Azerbaijani authorities to accept this,» said Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister noted that if the Karabakh issue has a military solution, then the people of Artsakh can record that they solved and concluded that issue long ago.
«It is very important to record that Armenia’s position regarding the Karabakh issue has been and continues to remain constructive, and our position is that, yes, the Artsakh issue must be resolved through peaceful negotiations, and the Republic of Armenia’s position, in essence, has always been this, regardless of the political provenance of governments and authorities,» noted the Prime Minister.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the next factor recorded in the National Security Strategy and which was expressed very quickly is Turkey’s destructive policy in our region and in the world in general.
«I believe that Turkey’s destabilizing and destructive activity causes significant anxiety and concern among our partners in the Middle East, the Eurasian region, and the European region alike. This is an agenda that has already been formed, and in that agenda our tasks will also become the subject of the most important discussions in the Security Council, in the Government, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we will also discuss issues related to this at today’s meeting,» said Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister noted that the most important record we must make is that the Republic of Armenia is capable of addressing its security challenges.
«At the same time, we must set ourselves the task of raising the level of manageability of the security environment with each week, each month, each year. And the Security Council is precisely the working format where issues of this kind should be discussed and receive solutions,» noted Pashinyan.
The agenda of the Security Council meeting includes a number of issues related to the security sector.
