Prominent Latvian artists, intellectuals and cultural figures have issued a statement calling on Azerbaijan to speed up the return of victims’ bodies and prisoners of war to Armenia. This was reported by the Armenian embassies in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

The statement reads, in particular:

“We, the artists, intellectuals and cultural figures of the Republic of Latvia, believing in the importance of human values and joining our Lithuanian colleagues, call on the Azerbaijani authorities not to obstruct the immediate return to the Republic of Armenia of prisoners of war and other persons held in captivity, as well as the bodies of soldiers killed and fallen during military operations in the recent Karabakh war. To our knowledge, Armenia has already returned all Azerbaijani prisoners of war.

We call on the international community to join this humanitarian initiative, thereby helping to overcome the humanitarian disaster in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) caused by the recent war.”
