The RA MFA strongly condemns Azerbaijan’s overt armed aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia, a UN member state, which constitutes a violation of international law standards. The ministry issued a statement to this effect.
“On May 25, in the Verin Shorzha section of the Gegharkunik Province of the Republic of Armenia, RA serviceman Junior Sergeant Kevork Khurshudyan received a fatal gunshot wound from fire opened by Azerbaijani armed formations.
We strongly condemn Azerbaijan’s overt armed aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia, a UN member state, which constitutes a violation of international law norms.
Contrary to the calls of the international community, Azerbaijan refuses to withdraw its armed forces from Armenia’s sovereign territory, further aggravating the situation and undermining regional security and stability.
Azerbaijan’s conduct of military operations in Armenia’s sovereign territory gives the Republic of Armenia the right to take necessary and proportionate steps to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to ensure the security of its population.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan is attempting to mask its illegal military operations in Armenia’s territory by circulating false information. The Armenian side is ready to involve an international investigation to clarify all the circumstances of this deadly incident,” the statement said.
