Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“I have just learned that 84-year-old Misha Melkumyan, a civilian taken captive by Azerbaijani armed forces, died last night.
Given all the evidence and documentation of the inhumane treatment and cruelty with which Azerbaijani armed forces treat Armenian prisoners, the well-founded assumption of what our compatriot may have died from becomes obvious.
I extend my condolences to all of Misha Melkumyan’s relatives.”
