No meeting currently scheduled between Armenia’s Prime Minister and Azerbaijan’s President: MFA

“Prime Minister Pashinyan has stated on several occasions that the Republic of Armenia is ready to resume negotiations with Azerbaijan on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue at high and highest levels, within the framework and under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.” This was stated by the spokesperson of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responding to media questions about the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Russia trilateral meeting. “At the same time, on the basis of the statement of 11 January 2021, Armenia is engaged in trilateral (Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan) working discussions concerning the unblocking of transport communications in the region.

Since May 2021, the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces units from the territory of the Republic of Armenia and the idea of a possible start of the process of delimitation and demarcation of the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have also been discussed in a trilateral format, which has not yet been brought to life.

The other two co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group — the United States and France — as well as the European Union, have expressed readiness to provide advisory assistance on the delimitation and demarcation of borders, as well as on the opening of regional communications.

The Government of the Republic of Armenia announced the aforementioned agenda months ago and will be consistent in advancing it, in protecting the interests of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh, and in establishing lasting peace and stability.

At the same time, I want to emphasise that at this moment no meeting is scheduled between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan. There are proposals for various meetings in different formats, which are at the stage of discussion.

I also want to emphasise that the news spread by certain circles on this topic is clearly provocative in nature and does not correspond to reality. To orient oneself correctly in the situation, I would advise studying the news, claims and ‘revelations’ that preceded the Moscow trilateral meeting of 11 January 2021, familiarising oneself with the results and content of the meeting, and retrospectively analysing to what extent the news circulating before the meeting corresponded to reality.”
