As of 5 May, approximately 300 samples taken from the bodies and remains of servicemen killed in the last Artsakh war could not be identified. The Ministry of Health reported this to the public.
According to the Ministry, as of 5 May, 3,752 bodies and remains of war victims had been subjected to forensic examination, of which 70 samples are currently in the process of examination. Up to 4 May, forensic examination had been carried out on 2,875 samples of victims’ bodies and remains, of which 2,580 samples were identified.
It should be noted that there are numerous cases where parents of fallen servicemen have questioned the reliability of DNA identification results and demanded that a second examination be carried out. Some, not trusting the results of the examination, have demanded that biological samples be sent abroad.
According to News.am, during this period approximately 100 remains of victims were sent abroad, as they were too damaged and their identification could not be carried out with the equipment available in Armenia.
It should be recalled that last December, the Ministry of Health purchased a new line of forensic identification testing equipment from the United States for approximately 300 million drams, with the aim of carrying out DNA identification tests between the bones of fallen servicemen and samples taken from their parents.
