Our Compatriot Harutyun Kiviryan Selected to Fly into Space

Within the framework of the open competition for the selection of cosmonauts of the Russian Federation, the Interdepartmental Commission for the Selection of Cosmonauts and Their Appointment to the Crews of Spacecraft and Stations (ICS) (the competition was launched in 2019) has decided to recommend 4 people from the “Yuri A. Gagarin Research Institute” for the position of cosmonaut candidates in the cosmonaut corps. The decision took effect on 27 January 2021. The profession of cosmonaut will be mastered by Sergei Irtuganov, Alexander Kolyabin, Sergei Teteriatnikov and Harutyun Kiviryan. In the near future, they will begin studying the General Space

Within the framework of the open competition for the selection of cosmonauts of the Russian Federation, the Interdepartmental Commission for the Selection of Cosmonauts and Their Appointment to the Crews of Spacecraft and Stations (ICS) (the competition was launched in 2019) has decided to recommend 4 people from the “Yuri A. Gagarin Research Institute” for the position of cosmonaut candidates in the cosmonaut corps.

The decision took effect on 27 January 2021.

The profession of cosmonaut will be mastered by Sergei Irtuganov, Alexander Kolyabin, Sergei Teteriatnikov and Harutyun Kiviryan. In the near future, they will begin studying the General Space Training course (GST), which they will complete over the course of two years.

The new cosmonaut selection campaign began on 3 June 2019. Subsequently, the ICS decided to hold a competition for the selection of candidates for the cosmonaut corps of “Roscosmos”. The purpose of the competition is to select the best specialists who work towards ensuring the implementation of the Russian Federal Space Programme. The specialists of the Cosmonaut Training Centre received a total of 2,229 verbal and written applications from those wishing to become cosmonauts. Citizens of the Russian Federation up to 35 years of age with higher, primarily technical education, could apply for places in the corps.
