In Brussels, there was no talk of a “corridor,” which shows the position of the mediators. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan said this on 15 May during a meeting with journalists, responding to the observation that Charles Michel did not clarify in his speech whether Aliyev had abandoned the idea of the “Zangezur corridor.”
“As for the corridor logic, this time, in any case, it was not mentioned at all, which means that our partners no longer use that term, and it was already evident what position the mediators hold,” Hovhannisyan said.
Responding to the question of whether, as noted, the parties’ positions are close on the issue of unblocking transport links and what construction work is being discussed, the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the issue of those roads is one of the red lines of the Armenian side, so before speaking about timelines regarding them, there are still questions to clarify.
“The talk is about the railway. It must operate only under the jurisdiction of the legislation of the Republic of Armenia. Only after receiving firm guarantees on that issue can we speak about construction and other works,” he added.
