The visit to Armenia of the delegation headed by Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi demonstrates the US commitment to a secure, economically prosperous and democratically governed Armenia and South Caucasus. According to Armenpress, this was stated in the statement issued by Pelosi’s office regarding the visit.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives noted that they are glad to visit Yerevan following the adoption of the historic resolution recognising the Armenian Genocide in 2019 and the first-time recognition of the Genocide by a US president. She stressed that “it is everyone’s moral responsibility to never forget — an obligation that has gained particular urgency as massacres are being carried out across the world, including by Russia in Ukraine.”
“Our congressional delegation’s visit to Armenia is a powerful symbol of the United States’ steadfast determination to have a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Armenia and a stable and peaceful Caucasus region. During working meetings with government leaders, civil society and members of security bodies, we will convey America’s strong and continued support, as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and a longtime friend of Armenia, for a lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Pelosi said.
She emphasised that the Democratic figures included in the delegation — Frank Pallone, Anna Eshoo, who has Armenian roots, and Jackie Speier — are figures who have long been active for Armenia’s interests. “Our delegation looks forward to productive meetings that will further strengthen our partnership with the Republic of Armenia and advance our values and interests in the region,” Pelosi concluded.
