At the joint session of the Security Councils of Armenia and Artsakh held in Yerevan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that the newly elected authorities of Artsakh, who will receive the people’s vote, will have constructive engagement in the peaceful process of the Karabakh conflict.
It is anticipated that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Artsakh will take place at the end of March or the beginning of April of the coming year.
The joint session of the Security Councils of Armenia and Artsakh was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Presidents of Armenia and Artsakh, Armen Sarkissian and Bako Sahakyan.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his position, which he had voiced at the first joint session of the Security Councils held in Stepanakert this March, that the involvement of official Stepanakert in the negotiation process is essential for registering progress towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
«It is evident that in the Artsakh issue, it is impossible to register any significant progress without the presence and expression of popular trust. From this perspective, the opinion of the people living in the conflict zone is more than essential, as they are the ones who will directly bear the benefits and risks associated with any option for peaceful settlement. This reality more than underscores the role of the people of Artsakh and the authorities elected by them in the process of peaceful settlement. The elections to be held in Artsakh in March of the coming year, from this perspective, gain additional importance. All fundamental documents aimed at the settlement of the conflict either include a reference to the participation of the elected authorities of Artsakh, or have been confirmed by representatives of the elected authorities of Artsakh», – stressed Nikol Pashinyan.
