At the expanded-format meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in Yerevan, discussions covered the implementation of the EAEU 2018 budget, the EAEU 2020 budget, the concept for the formation of a common EAEU electricity market, a number of internal changes within the EAEU, and the venue for the next meeting of the Supreme Council.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, as the leader of the country presiding over and hosting the EAEU, welcomed the meeting participants and noted that it was a great honour for him to greet them in Yerevan during the regular session.
“Our organisation, which is already 5 years old, continues to grow stronger year by year. It has already demonstrated its viability and attractiveness as an international union,” the Prime Minister of Armenia emphasised.
For effective cooperation, Nikol Pashinyan highlighted measures aimed at removing the existing obstacles to the free movement of labour within the EAEU, which hinder the formation of a common labour market.
According to him, the mutual recognition of electronic digital signatures is also among the priority issues requiring special attention in order to ensure the unhindered participation of potential suppliers in electronic procurement, and it is necessary to find a solution acceptable to all.
Nikol Pashinyan also noted that they consider it necessary to intensify joint efforts aimed at creating favourable conditions for the transition to settlements in national currencies among EAEU countries.
Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia attaches particular importance to the expansion of the geography of the Eurasian Economic Union’s external economic relations. According to him, agreements with Iran and China will enter into force this very month. Their subsequent implementation, he said, is a priority within the framework of a genuine expansion of trade cooperation with third countries.
Nikol Pashinyan also announced that negotiations with Singapore have already been concluded. The agreement on free trade between the EAEU, its member states and the Republic of Singapore has been signed.
