The Republic of Armenia is ready and interested in opening all economic and transport links in the region. As reported by Armenpress, during a question-and-answer session with government members in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in response to a question from Anna Mkrtchyan, a deputy of the “I Have Honor” faction, regarding the unblocking of communications under the November 9 trilateral statement. Mkrtchyan asked the Prime Minister whether point 9 of the November 9 trilateral statement does not contain corridor components.
“All our interpretations are formulated in detail in the Foreign Ministry’s December 7 commentary. Now, what is the essence of the question: do you want to receive an answer as to whether we have an agreement regarding a corridor, or do you want us to have an agreement regarding a corridor? I do not agree with the interpretations you have stated,” said Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister also addressed the deputy’s observation that a road is being given at the expense of the Republic of Armenia. Pashinyan again insisted that the Republic of Armenia is ready and interested in opening all economic and transport links in the region, with the understanding that Azerbaijan must receive railway and land communication with Nakhichevan through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, and the Republic of Armenia must receive railway communication through the territory of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, as well as land communication through the territory of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation.
“We believe that we should move toward solutions based on this logic, and we believe that what we are proposing and what we recorded yesterday in the Foreign Ministry’s statement fully corresponds to the interests of our country. I have said before that I do not understand the rhetoric that all our roads must be closed so that no one passes through our roads, because, on the contrary, that logic has always been advanced by those who wanted there to be no transit through Armenia, for Armenia’s transport routes to be closed, and so on,” concluded Pashinyan.
