Robert Kocharyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the “Armenia” alliance, has resigned from his parliamentary mandate.
Kocharyan announced this in a Facebook post, which we present below:
“Today, Aram Vardevanyan, the official representative of the “Armenia” alliance, submitted to the Central Electoral Commission my application to resign from the parliamentary mandate.
It so happened that at various times I have been a deputy of both the Artsakh and Armenian parliaments, but by my nature I have always been a man of the executive branch. I am convinced that now it is more appropriate to yield my place to my teammates, each of whom, I am sure, will become a good deputy.
With this step I also express my agreement with the thousands of teammates who have conveyed to me their opinion that after the offices of President of the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia, I should not be tempted by a parliamentary mandate. After all, they were voting for me as the alliance’s candidate for prime minister.
At the same time, I consider it necessary to stress that my not going to the National Assembly does not mean withdrawing from the struggle. The faction is the alliance’s presence in the National Assembly, and I continue to remain the leader of the alliance and will contribute through daily, consistent work to our expected victories.
I am confident that everything will be fine.”
It should be recalled that the “Armenia” and “I Have Honor” alliances, and the “Zartonk” and “Homeland of Armenians” parties had appealed the results of the 20 June early parliamentary elections to the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court upheld the decision of the Central Electoral Commission.
