Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with the Russian news outlet rbc.ru, addressed the accusations made by the head of the RT television network, Margarita Simonyan. In response to the journalist’s question of whether he had read Simonyan’s post, Pashinyan said he had not read it but was familiar with its content.
Commenting on the accusations regarding the criminal prosecution of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Pashinyan noted that Russia’s allies are not individual political figures but the Armenian people. “In Russia, they must understand that Russia’s ally in Armenia is not Pashinyan, Petrosyan, Poghosyan, Sargsyan, or Kocharyan; the ally and partner is the Armenian people. This is a very important nuance,” said Pashinyan.
According to the Prime Minister, many figures in Armenia have tried to present themselves as Russia’s partners.
In an interview with the Russian RBC television channel, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility of a large-scale war against the backdrop of the latest Armenian-Azerbaijani escalations, because there are forces and countries that are fueling that conflict. As reported by Armenpress, in response to the journalist’s question of whether he could say which countries those are, Pashinyan answered that first and foremost it is Turkey.
“There are current interests and historical reasons for this, because Turkey has not renounced the policy of the Armenian Genocide. The President of Turkey not only does not recognize the fact of the Armenian Genocide, which took place in 1915 in the Ottoman Empire, but also justifies it,” noted Pashinyan.
According to the Prime Minister, there is also another factor behind Turkey’s such behavior.
“Turkey, as at the beginning of the last century, has a dream to control the South Caucasus. And in the 30 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union, they work every day to bring that dream and goal to life,” noted Pashinyan.
The Armenian Prime Minister believes that first and foremost Russia understands what geopolitical developments all this could lead to.
