Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is confident that the threat of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic is real.

Presenting the positive statistics of new coronavirus cases at the government meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the start of classes within educational institutions will increase the risk of the spread of the infection.

And for that very reason, according to the Prime Minister, it is extremely important to strictly observe the rules set by the authorities; for example, children must wear masks at school: — “The decisions that are being made apply not only to others but also to our children — our children are not exempt, neither in schools, nor in kindergartens, nor anywhere else. Our goal is to gradually emerge from this regime of restrictions. We are conducting observations and will make the necessary corresponding decisions so that our children can breathe fully as soon as possible.”

Armenia’s schools and universities will open on September 15. Pashinyan urged the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport to treat the observance of rules within educational institutions very strictly, even to the point of applying strict administrative measures.

The authorities’ approach is this: if schools open, then they will not close again: — “They say, let’s open, no problem, and in twenty days close again… That is, are we going to conduct experiments? We must open the schools in such a way that closing them again is ruled out.”

Over the past two weeks, up to two hundred cases of coronavirus have been recorded daily in the country. The number of active cases has also decreased; as of today, they number 2,908.
