The pre-election headquarters of “My Step” will be headed by Suren Papikyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia. The information was announced by the head of the Prime Minister’s staff, Arsen Torosyan, during an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
“It has been decided that four people will coordinate the pre-election headquarters: myself, Romanos Petrosyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, and Suren Papikyan. Papikyan will be the chief coordinator, one might say the head of the headquarters,” Torosyan said.
According to him, Pashinyan will resign between 20 April and 5 May. However, even after that, he will remain acting prime minister, and the current government will continue its work until a new government is formed.
“At present, the elections best serve the country’s interests and are a means of easing political tension,” he stressed.
Asked whether Pashinyan’s regional visits are part of the pre-election campaign, Torosyan replied that the prime minister is obliged by virtue of his office to be where there are problems and to speak with citizens.
“For a year we have not held such meetings, owing to the coronavirus pandemic and the war,” he explained.
According to Torosyan, the use of administrative resources is objectionable, and the prime minister would not do such a thing.
Let us recall that on 18 March, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, announced that early parliamentary elections would be held in Armenia on 20 June.
