“The resolution by the Syrian parliament on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is a vivid testament to the centuries-old friendship and mutual sympathy between the Armenian and Syrian peoples. It is a significant contribution to the restoration of historical justice and the prevention of genocides,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia in a declaration regarding the resolution by the Syrian parliament on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide.
The declaration specifically states: “We highly appreciate the adoption by the Syrian parliament of the resolution on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman state.
The genocide unleashed by the Young Turk government, a considerable part of which was carried out on the territory of Syria, then under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, forms part of the shared historical memory of the Armenian and Syrian peoples.
The Syrian people, having been witnesses to the genocide perpetrated against the Armenian people, were among the first to extend a helping hand to the victims of the Genocide. Thousands of survivors found a new homeland in Syria, forming one of the most flourishing Armenian communities and contributing to the development of Syria.
Today, when the Syrian people are living under difficult conditions, we express our solidarity and support in overcoming the existing challenges.”
