In April 2016, violating the 1994 agreement on a complete ceasefire and cessation of military operations, Azerbaijan, employing its entire offensive arsenal, launched a large-scale attack against the Republic of Artsakh, targeting both the positions of the Defense Army and civilian infrastructure and border settlements. On the occasion of the day, a statement was issued by the Artsakh MFA.
“During the April War, Azerbaijan committed numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity, particularly recording many cases of brutal killings, torture, and inhumane treatment of Armenian prisoners of war and the civilian population.
The fact that the international community did not condemn Azerbaijan’s war crimes further intensified that country’s belligerent aspirations in the following years, the culmination of which was the unleashing of a new large-scale war against Artsakh on September 27, 2020, with Turkey’s support and the involvement of international terrorists.
The international community must give a decisive assessment of Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggressive (offensive) policy, its extreme contempt for international law, and its attempts to refuse negotiations aimed at settling the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict.
The unity demonstrated by the Armenian people during the April War and the heroic deeds of our heroes will remain forever in our history and in the memory of generations,” the statement said.
