Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has announced the need for meetings between the special representatives of Ankara and Yerevan to be held in Turkey or Armenia.
“If we are talking about the normalization of relations, then why not hold meetings in Turkey or Armenia? We have expressed such readiness,” Cavusoglu said, adding that the next, third meeting of the special representatives will take place in Vienna.
He also noted that he is aware that Armenia is under pressure, since this is by no means an easy process. He also understands that a part of the Armenian diaspora, particularly the communities in the US and France, do not support this process, he continued.
“But is there now a need to meet in a third country?”
Cavusoglu emphasized that his words should not be perceived as an accusation. According to him, the Armenian side should be a little more courageous, because if they cannot hold a meeting in Turkey, then how should they take steps on other issues?
He also stated that they had even proposed to meet in Yerevan at the beginning, but the Armenian side did not agree, insisting on meeting in a third country.
