On 2 September, the 30th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Artsakh is marked.
On 2 September 1991, a joint session of the regional and Shahumyan district councils of deputies took place in Stepanakert, where the declaration of the Republic of Mountainous Karabakh was adopted. On 10 December of the same year, a referendum was held that confirmed the independence of Mountainous Karabakh. On that day, 99 percent of the population of the NKR voted in favour of independence. Following the referendum, the NKR parliament was formed through parliamentary elections, which constituted the first government.
We greet the 30th anniversary of the declaration of Artsakh’s statehood with difficult and complex challenges, but the Artsakh war, the April and 44-day wars show that the people of Artsakh will not abandon the path they have chosen. During the special session of the National Assembly dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Artsakh, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs David Babayan stated in his speech that the international recognition of Artsakh has been and will remain one of the fundamental directions of state-building and foreign policy.
The Minister also emphasised the importance of the preservation of the Republic of Artsakh and characterised the preservation of Artsakh and the centrality of Artsakh as the most important issues facing the entire Armenian nation, stressing within this framework the need for the continued strengthening of the Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity.
