The President of Armenia has signed decrees on relieving Vahe Ghazaryan, acting chief of police, of his position and appointing him Minister of Internal Affairs.
The National Assembly, at an extraordinary session in December 2022, adopted the legislative package on the creation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with 67 votes in favor and 6 against.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also existed in the 1990s; it became the Police in 2002, during the tenure of Robert Kocharyan.
