We Are Not Prepared to Make Our Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity a Subject of Bargaining: Pashinyan

Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan confirmed via Facebook that he has not signed any document, and that there is not even a draft document, ordering Armenia’s soldiers to stand firm at the country’s borders, in positions of territorial integrity and defense, and not to yield to speculation. “A short while ago I learned that people are spreading rumors that I have signed some document.

That has nothing to do with reality. I officially state that no paper has been signed, moreover, no paper is being prepared for signing, there is no talk of any paper. And this is being done deliberately, to weaken the resistance of our soldier standing at the border,” stressed Pashinyan, adding that he is not prepared to sign any document.

He added that what he said in the National Assembly does not differ from what he had previously said. He reminded that Azerbaijan has proposed points for the peace treaty, the Armenian side has said that there is nothing unacceptable in those points, however, it does not include all the issues on the agenda, therefore, it has completed it, also including the rights of the people of Artsakh, security guarantees and other conditions deriving from these, which will guarantee the security of the Armenians of Artsakh and the realization of their rights.

And as to why he spoke about Armenia’s territory of 29,800 square kilometers, about the Armenian SSR, Pashinyan explained that today Armenia is being subjected to encroachment. “We have said that we will not give anyone a corridor through Armenia’s territory. We will not sign a paper that will in any way cast doubt on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. Such a thing is excluded,” he stressed, again adding: “I have not signed any paper. Nothing of the sort has been planned, there is no draft paper on my table today that is to be signed or not signed. Nor is anything of the sort planned for the coming days. At this moment there is generally nothing—no text, no paper—for me to sign or not sign. People tell me, today soldiers are calling from the border, saying, is it true that a paper has been signed, meaning we are not even holding our border?”

He issued a call to unite around statehood to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Our homeland, the Republic of Armenia, is more than a sanctity; it is not subject to bargaining. Today I said this from the podium of the National Assembly. We, whether by corridor or by anything else, are not prepared to make our sovereignty and territorial integrity a subject of bargaining; we are not prepared. I have declared that on the other hand we will not shy away from responsibility; if we see that there is a solution, even if not ideal, but nevertheless one that does not cross the red lines of Armenia’s interests, we are also ready to assume that responsibility and move toward those solutions,” observed Pashinyan.
