Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev today appointed a special representative for the Lachin district. The post will be filled by Masim Mammadov.
According to the Caliber.az website, which is close to the Azerbaijani authorities, Mammadov was one of the participants in the negotiations held with the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities in Khojaly on March 1. At that meeting, Mammadov took part as the head of the Azerbaijani monitoring group investigating the illegal exploitation of natural resources in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to Azerbaijani sources, Mammadov previously worked at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy as an adviser.
It should be noted that Azerbaijanis presenting themselves as “ecologists” have kept the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the world closed for 107 days now.
“Today, along the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, we hold very advantageous positions,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared during a meeting with his newly appointed special representative for the Lachin district, Masim Mammadov.
According to him, “they are consolidating their positions there and will remain there.”
“For years, Armenia considered the return of Lachin unacceptable. During the long years of negotiations, the mediators consistently showed a special approach to the Lachin district, while Armenia, in general, considered the return of that district to Azerbaijan unacceptable,” Aliyev said, adding: “However, the Armenians are not preparing to leave the other districts either. Today, two and a half years after the war, this has become much more obvious to everyone. The international mediators, too – the former OSCE Minsk Group – by conducting negotiations, were in fact trying to cement the fact of the seizure.”
