National Assembly President Alen Simonyan, who is on an official visit to Russia, gave an interview to the “Vmeste” television project after a meeting with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko.
Alen Simonyan stressed that this is his first official foreign visit in his capacity as President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, and that it is very important for him that this visit is to Russia, with which Armenia has allied and friendly relations, and that everything must be done to ensure that our work continues for the benefit of Armenia and Russia.
Speaking about the upcoming parliamentary work and main goals, the National Assembly President emphasised in particular Armenia’s cooperation with different countries on international platforms.
Responding to a question about what work is being carried out in the parliament of Armenia, which is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, to overcome customs difficulties and develop trade turnover, Alen Simonyan said that work is currently being carried out on two legislative initiatives. According to him, all preliminary understandings have long been established on both the Armenian and Russian sides, but the world is developing at a rapid pace, and there is a constant need for new changes.
The National Assembly President also stressed the importance of the Armenian community in Russia. According to Simonyan, the majority of Armenia’s population speaks Russian, and that is why Russian tourists feel at home in Armenia. “Armenia is a very convenient tourist destination for Russia, because in our country, first, there is no language problem, and second, Armenia is a peaceful country. A tourist coming from Russia should always know that Armenia is a place where one can always return,” said Alen Simonyan.
