Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, on an official visit to Egypt, met on 14 September with President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that Mnatsakanyan reaffirmed the Armenian side’s readiness to take steps toward the further expansion and strengthening of Armenian-Egyptian cooperation. As priority directions of cooperation, the interlocutors singled out information technology, e-governance, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and the scientific-educational spheres.

Armenia’s Foreign Minister and Egypt’s President highly assessed Armenian-Egyptian relations, founded on traditional friendship and mutual respect, valuing the bridging role of the Egyptian-Armenian community in strengthening ties between the two countries and peoples. Mnatsakanyan valued Egypt’s historical role and present-day experience in preserving and strengthening religious diversity and solidarity.

The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues of regional and international peace and security. In this regard, Armenia’s Foreign Minister expressed concern over attempts to export instability to the Middle East and the South Caucasus, stressing the importance of international cooperation aimed at maintaining peace and security.

In Egypt, during a joint press conference with that country’s Foreign Minister, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, answering a question from Sky News Arabia on how he assesses Turkey’s behaviour in the Caucasus and the Eastern Mediterranean, and whether that behaviour poses a threat or not:

“Of course, we are witnessing their attempts at military build-up. We are receiving information about the use of foreign terrorist fighters who are to be relocated to Azerbaijan or perhaps have already been relocated. We are witnessing a large military presence, military reinforcement. All of this is precisely the kind of action that undermines efforts directed at peace and stability in the region,” stressed Armenia’s Foreign Minister.
