30 criminal cases have been opened at the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia on the facts of Azerbaijan’s armed forces violating the ceasefire regime, grossly violating the requirements of the Geneva Conventions and the standards of international humanitarian law, and firing heavy artillery, mortars and other weapons at the civilian population.
The Investigative Committee reports that during the period of 12 to 16 July 2020, Azerbaijan’s armed forces fired approximately 150 shots from weapons of various calibres, including artillery, 6 attack drones, 82mm and 120mm mortars, D30 howitzers and other artillery pieces, at various settlements of the Tavush region and Armenian combat positions.
On the facts of the shots fired and the damage caused as a result, 30 criminal cases have been opened and are being investigated at the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia on the grounds of murder of two or more persons in a manner dangerous to the lives of many, unlawfully and intentionally, on the motive of national hatred, and intentional destruction of property.
According to preliminary data, as a result of the attacks and shelling on Armenian combat positions, 36 servicemen have been injured, 4 servicemen have been killed, and 6 vehicles have been damaged.
As a result of the shelling of various settlements of the Tavush region, 24 houses, 1 cognac and 1 wine factory, 1 kindergarten, a cemetery, 4 vehicles, 1 water pipeline, 1 gas pipeline, 1 greenhouse, and 1 police guard post have been damaged, where 2 police officers sustained bodily injuries. In addition, 1 civilian has been injured.
All necessary investigative and procedural actions are being carried out in full in connection with the criminal cases.
