The developments taking place in Armenia, with light touches, remind us of an old-new Armenian reality.
The fact that all Armenians become one during times of war and merge into the collective image of the warrior going off to battle is undeniable. Indeed, we witnessed this phenomenon in April 2016, when all assumptions and theories were cast aside and even hundreds of Armenians from Europe and distant Russia reached Stepanakert, in the name of defending the sacred land.
Today, however, the situation is completely different.
In the sense that everyone has something to say, everyone seeks a convenient opportunity to criticise, and absolutely everyone has become people who agonise over our country’s present and future.
Despite the fact that those same people, only two years ago, had quietly slipped under the great umbrella of the authorities and were trying to gather the crumbs of bread that had fallen to their share…
Those same people today are busy opening fire against the authorities, forgetting that the downfall of today’s authorities could, in any case, be the downfall of our people’s will to change and the breaking of the great sail of hope opened toward the future…
Times pass, difficult moments also pass, and again an opportunity is given to all of us to think carefully about what we have done and what we are to do, but the problem is that far too many of us deny their deep-seated feeling of loyalty toward this country and throw themselves into the thankless task of flinging mud at the authorities.
They still forget that the current cohort of young figures, who reached the authorities through the velvet trenches of love and solidarity, set aside everything and threw themselves into the mission of being a raft of salvation for our people, who were drowning in the swamp.
While the first task (the baseless mud-slinging) resembles carrying out an order, the work of these young people in governing the country, on the other hand, is a true mission.
A mission built on solid foundations, in which the most influential voice belongs to the brave people of Armenia.
Beyond all this, the most fundamental point is that no matter how loudly the fabricated winds of those who give orders blow today, they are incapable of taking the country back toward the swamp… and toward the past.
We live and we shall see.
