“About 30 percent of Armenia’s adult population has received the first dose of the Covid vaccine.” This was stated by Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan, who was participating in the discussion of next year’s draft budget in parliament.
As of November 7, approximately 900,000 vaccinations have been administered. The number of citizens who have received the first dose is more than 600,000. Those who have received the second dose number around 300,000. The large gap between the first and second doses is due to the fact that the increase in the pace of vaccinations has mainly taken place over the last month, that is, after the restrictions imposed by the government. Currently, an average of 18-19 thousand vaccinations are recorded per day.
Avanesyan insisted that no significant case of post-vaccination complications has been recorded, while at the same time confirming that there have been cases where people died of Covid even after being vaccinated.
“When a death is recorded and it turns out that the person obtained a vaccination certificate without any follow-up measure to determine whether he was actually vaccinated or not, unfortunately we do not have that, and this will also give rise to a question of certain trust in vaccinations. Law enforcement bodies must strictly and continuously work to uncover cases of violation; we have had cases where, even in the presence of the circumstance of having been vaccinated, unfortunately, people have died of Covid. That information will also be published in the near future,” Avanesyan emphasized.
The minister also informed that in Armenia’s schools, in-person instruction continues, but those schools where local outbreaks occur will switch to remote learning.
