On July 15, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the UN, within the framework of Armenia’s presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union, organized an event at the UN headquarters in New York titled “Investments Towards a Climate-Conscious Economy: Sustainable Energy Development Goal N13.” The event, whose main speaker was RA Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, was organized within the framework of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development taking place in New York.
It should be noted that the delegation of the ADL Eastern America Regional Board was present at the event, comprising ADL Central Board member, ADL Eastern America Regional Board chairman Norayr Mkrtchyan, Harutyun Diratsuyan, and Seda Gantarchyan and Shoghik Chalian-Darpinyan.
The meeting was opened with remarks by RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Mher Margaryan. Speakers also included Deputy Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, Deputy Administrator of the UN Development Programme Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Minister Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the Multilateral Diplomacy Department of Belarus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Larisa Belskaya, Kazakhstan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Kairat Umarov, Kyrgyzstan’s Permanent Representative Myrkul Moldoisaeva, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chumakov, and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Dimitri Mariasin.
In his speech, RA Deputy Prime Minister Avinyan addressed the latest global and regional developments in the energy sector, noting that Armenia has gained tangible practical experience in energy efficiency by operating new technologies and initiating new national programs. Emphasizing the vital importance of energy efficiency for Armenia in facing threats to energy security, registering economic growth, and fulfilling its commitments under the Paris Agreement, Deputy Prime Minister Avinyan presented Armenia’s achievements in this direction.
At the end of the discussion, the speakers answered questions from the numerous representatives of UN member states and civil society organizations present at the event.
