At the initiative of European Parliament members Loucas Fourlas and François-Xavier Bellamy, 43 members of the European Parliament from all major political groups sent a letter to European Council President Charles Michel and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, ahead of the Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting in Brussels.
The parliamentarians raised the alarm regarding the policy of ethnic cleansing being carried out by Azerbaijan against the indigenous Armenian population in Artsakh. They called on the executive leadership of the European Union to use all levers at the Union’s disposal to exert pressure on Azerbaijan, so that that country puts an end to its aggressive policy in Artsakh, immediately withdraws its armed forces to their starting positions, and ceases any action that could endanger the security and well-being of the indigenous Armenian population of Mountainous Karabakh.
