Alen Simonyan: Attacks on the Government Will Continue Even After Ter-Petrosyan’s Article

The offices of the second and third presidents have not yet responded to Ter-Petrosyan’s article. Alen Simonyan, a deputy of the “My Step” faction and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, said he does not believe the attacks in the media will stop. “I have great doubts, because those people you mentioned, who occupied and held the presidency for two decades, had the opportunity to make many, many state-minded and Armenia-friendly decisions and did not make them.

And today I think this is the only possible place for them where they can somehow try to impose an agenda, which they do at the expense of material resources, and I do not know the effectiveness of that; perhaps they know it themselves.

President Ter-Petrosyan knows what it means to govern a country in crisis situations, and I think the atmosphere and everything that is happening today in the media field has left its mark and forced the first president to make such a statement. I find that all the criticisms that may exist and do exist, we can discuss together, and we can do that also after overcoming this pandemic, because the pandemic will not ask about any political preference, so I understand the concern and I understand what the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan means,” said the Vice President of the National Assembly.

Let us recall that a few days ago, the first president of the Republic of Armenia, the leader of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, published an article in which he noted that due to the pandemic, Armenia today finds itself in a state of war, and moreover, much more severe and dangerous than during traditional wars.

“In my impression, the Armenian authorities, perhaps with some mistakes and omissions (there is no infallible government), are responsibly fulfilling their duties, mainly taking all the necessary and possible steps arising from the situation. Judging by the public’s responses, the work of medical workers, the police, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations is generally assessed positively, while unfairly failing, however, to highlight the important role of the officials coordinating their work — the commandant of the state of emergency and the minister of health.

But while the authorities are engaged in almost round-the-clock arduous work, a huge army of unappreciated geniuses, provocateurs and ill-wishers, through countless media outlets under the control of known forces and hundreds of fakes, has in fact opened a second front of war against them,” the first president noted.

According to the first president, under the veil of ostensibly useful advice and constructive proposals, such hatred and enmity is sown towards the authorities that it raises the most serious doubt about the “goodwill” of their authors.
