Alen Simonyan has been elected President of the National Assembly of the 8th convocation by secret ballot. The votes were distributed as follows: Alen Simonyan received 71 votes, while Mkhtar Zakaryan and Artur Sargsyan received no votes.
Deputies from the opposition “Hayastan” and “Pativ Unem” factions did not participate in the vote.
It should be noted that the President of the National Assembly was not elected on the first attempt. Shortly after the start of the election was announced, the Chairman of the NA Counting Commission, Narek Babayan, had informed that the vote would be suspended with the aim of resuming it. The reason was a typographical error in the name of one of the candidates on the ballot paper.
